Deeper Sleep is a sequel to an indie game featuring so called lucid dreaming.

Lucid dreams

Lucid dream is not an imaginary but medical term, which was used by the famous ancient philosopher Aristotel in the ancient times too. That is the state of mind when a person is completely aware that he or she is dreaming and can partially participate in the dream and influence the outcome. This theme had obviously fascinated the programmer named 'scriptwelder', how he presents himself to the gaming community, and he had made the Deep Sleep game in 2012 and now in September of 2013 we have a sequel.

What's it about?

The game has a task for the player to find out the very roots of his lucid dreams so he can escape them somehow. First he goes to the local library to learn about this problem and there he first encounters the supernatural beings which may be responsible for this trouble he is in. Soon he will realize that he is not wanted there and that there is a silent observer lurking from the shadows and that it is very aware of his presence there. Soon he will receive the message that he shouldn't have come back here. The game consists from several chapters and they are: All I Have To Do Is Dream, Into the Woods and Into the Depths, Powering Your Dreams, Going Up and Going Down, Full Text of all 15 Notes.

How to Play

Basically this is the classic adventure with elements of horror, played on the point and click principle. When you come across an item you can interact with, the cursor will go slightly green and that is your cue that this item is collectible. As far as graphics is concerned, it is quite impressive but in pixel art category. This is the technique where all characters and objects are represented in a very small resolution with a goal that the player activates the imagination to fill in the blanks and concentrate on the story.

Overall Impressions

The game deserves very high marks and recommendations. The atmosphere is very tense, scary and resembles an old horror movies where someone or something consistently lurks from the shadows. So, there are no cheap tricks and jump scares and gory scenes with too much blood. To be honest, without consulting the walktrough the majority of players will have a hard time solving this mysterious puzzle. Our advice would be to turn off the lights and put on your headphones before you start playing if you want the complete experience.
