Hellvolution Outbreak - Zombies On Your Doorstep
If you think that the Hellvolution Outbreak is yet another zombie apocalypse game, you are absolutely right. There are tons of these games today, and it is really hard to stand out from the crowd in this particular genre. Back in 2010, GamesNitro, a famous flash games developer at the time, did their best to make another zombie shooter with some cool and creepy apocalyptic atmosphere to make you almost feel as if playing a role in some horror movie. But, in the end of the day, this is basically just a shooter game, so don't expect jumpscares or anything like that. I don't have anything against zombie shooters. It's just that there are too many of them and usually these are not particularly scary. You know, when you have a gun and a tons of ammo, and when you can simply blow zombie's head just like that and kill them, than basically there's nothing to be too much afraid of except of loosing the ammo and ending up with an empty gun.
- Gameplay -

The game begins in rather old and messy room: there's no toilet, doors are locked, blood stains everywhere. There's an axe and a gun on the floor. You can't take an axe but if you grab a gun the door gets unlocked so you can leave. The moment you step outside there's no returning back. You are in the woods, facing the apocalypse. Dozens of hungry flash eating zombies are crawling across the field towards you. On the other side, it's you holding a gun, shooting back. Every 5 rounds you must reload. The gun reload on its own, but you can do it manually if you like.
- Controls -

The first thing you want to check is how to play. Left click of course is for shooting. To reload you need to press the space bar or just hit the 'r' key on your keyboard. There are some special skills you can engage by hitting one of the numeric keys from 5 to 7. The first four numeric keys are reserved for changing the gun. And there's something called narrow vision which works as zoom.
- Buying guns -
When you complete the level, you get to see your stats, like how many kills you did and how many headshots. You get your accuracy calculated. There's a health bonus, which is bigger the less you get bitten by zombies during the fight. You also get bonus points for saving civilians. The money you collect like this you can take and spend on buying better guns or ammo. Just as an example, let me explain how it works. After the first round you will most probably cash in less than 100$. To buy a better pistol such as 9mm 1911 Colt, you need to spend 300$, combat gun is 400$ and AK47 is 250$. Visiting the store is available on the end of the level.
- Is it worth it? - Ummmm ...
In the end, I must say that I am not blow away with this game. There are really tons of similar games and despite the excellent atmosphere and top notch graphics, it's just too common and repetitive. There's nothing new about it, nothing shockingly too good. On my moody day, I would call it dull and boring, which is not, at lest not entirely.
