Surrounded By Death
Surrounded By Death
If you have ever played World At War: Nazi Zombies or Call Of Duty, then you realize that this is just another rip-off. Right this moment I have at least a dozen flash games on my mind where the main hero places barricades on the windows while hordes of bloodthirsty zombies are trying to get in. The good thing, besides the obvious unoriginal gameplay, is very descent graphics, made in 3D Unity technique. But in this game we don't have a tiny little man running around tirelessly and placing barricades.
"Surrounded by Death" is a first person shooter in which the player moves around in a realistic 3D space. He shoots at creatures with his shotgun. The thing is that he bumps into them literally face to face.

Scoring?
Still this game is not all bad. For example, there is an interesting scoring system in place here. For each dead zombie you get 100 points. To fix the barricade you need 250 points. To finish the level, which means to open the locked door leading into the next room, you need 2500 points. To buy an advanced weapon for mass destruction of non-living pests, you need an incredible 7000 points. Unfortunately, most players don't have the persistence to really get ant try out this weapon.

Gaming strategy?
As far as strategy is concerned, it has proven to work only to stand in the middle of the room and wait for the creatures to come to you in the next wave. The real strategy would be for the player to move from window to window and shoot at monsters while they are still in the yard. Steady hand and a single head shot are quite enough to take down a zombie, which then disappears after several seconds. The downside here is that all rooms look alike, which means that all levels are almost the same and that zombies are all completely identical. That makes the game very monotonous. Occasionally the movement mechanics is displaying some problems, or on other occasions the clean shot, for unknown reasons, simply doesn't count.

Verdict: It's really difficult to comment on games like this one, because the effort invested is evident, despite rather bad gameplay. I am sure some players will appreciate 3d shooting scenes, in which you play hide and seek with zombies before you blow their heads off. That may end up being fun, if you add some imagination to the mix. The biggest problem is that it's not scary, not one bit. 2 stars out of 5 from me.
